Board Update

Good Evening:

Happy Mother’s Day!

LAST WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

On May 4th attended the SCENE Meeting about governor’s proposed budget and impact North Royalton School District. Governor Kasich’s Budget Proposal would cost North Royalton School District almost 5 Million Dollars in the next Biennium Budget. Our district will take a devastating hit from the Governor’s budget if nothing of significance changes. The SCENE was hosted by Superintendent Ed Vittardi and Treasurer Rich McIntosh who both discussed how the state funding cuts will impact our district.I just want to thank all those who were able to attend.

The School Board met on May 5th for its’ Board Work Session. The Treasurer provided the Board with an updated 5 Year Forecast for the District. The Board discussed the impact of HB 153 (the state budget) and what steps can be taken to increase public awareness. There was also discussion about the impact of pending legislation HB 136, which could also divert more money away from the North Royalton School District. The Board was given an update on the progress of the Stadium Project. Board also discussed the results of the Board Evaluation and how to go about finalizing the Board’s Goals for the year. The Board also went in Executive Session for the purpose to discuss the employment of personnel. The Board reviewed the May Regular Meeting agenda items, and such other matters that came before the Board.

State Budget Update
Unfortunately the budget was approved by the House on May 5th with only minor changes to the governor’s original proposal. In the most recent version, we stand to lose $4.6 million rather than $4.9 million which will still have a profound impact. The budget debate is far from over; as the Senate can still make changes to the House version. I urge all residents to contact state senator Tom Patton as soon as possible to voice your concerns. Also continue to contact our state representatives Mike Dovilla and Marlene Anielski as well. Below is their contact information:

NEW District Website
North Royalton City Schools launched a new design of our district website today that has a more user-friendly navigation, school calendar, and incorporates more photos, videos, and links. The address remains the same: http://www.northroyaltonsd.org. As part of the district’s five year strategic plan, a website committee was formed and has been meeting since the fall to develop the new look and content. The community will find that our site will be easier to access specific information. Our goal is to have one place to access everything you need. The public will notice a significant difference visually when they reach the homepage. There you can find the School Calendar, News & Events, Quick Links, video welcome message from the Superintendent, video highlighting what is happening in the school buildings, as well as a link to the district’s Facebook page.
The district is also expanding its efforts to communicate with the community through regular e-communications and are looking for people to sign up for their e-blasts on the home page of the district’s new website at www.northroyaltonsd.org. The district plans on using this new form of communication to update residents and school families on upcoming events, programs, and announcements. When community members sign up, they will have the choice to get messages from the district as a whole or individual school buildings. The goal of the district is to have every school family signed up to receive emails by the end of the school year. The district also has begun advertising on the homepage of the website. Businesses will have the opportunity to purchase a six-month or one-year advertising commitment and their logo will appear in a rotating box on the bottom right corner of the homepage. Businesses interested in being one of the first to advertise on the new site can call Assistant Superintendent Jim Presot at 440/582-9034 for more information and pricing.
