More good news in the North Royalton School District Royal View Elementary has been named a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School! Royal View Blue Ribbon School
On September 9th Royal View Elementary School was nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a winner of its highly prestigious Blue Ribbon recognition. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 304 schools across the country. The award honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement. “We are so proud at Royal View to receive the tremendous honor of being named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2010. The focus and goal of all teachers and staff members is to do all that we can each day, in every area of the school, to make all students successful,” said Royal View Elementary Principal Dr. Andrea Lasko. “By working together with our parents and the community we have found that great things can be accomplished. Student achievement and happiness is truly at the heart of all we do. The National Blue Ribbon Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our fine staff at Royal View, our supportive parents and community!” The school is planning a celebration to be scheduled in the near future. Royal View will be honored at an awards ceremony November 15-16 in Washington, D.C. Again, my sincere congrats to Royal View on this great achievement!!!

The School Board met on September 9th for its’ Board Work Session. The Board got an update on the stadium renovation project. The board was given a presentation by an alternative energy company called, SUREnergy about building a wind turbine near the high school football stadium. Such a wind turbine would help reduce the district’s energy costs and would provide an excellent opportunity for the district’s students to learn about issues of alternative energy and sustainability. The Board plans to continue discussion on the matter and compare costs with other companies that specialize in this type of work. The board received an update about the progress of the district’s new website that will tentatively be launched sometime in 2011. The Board reviewed the September Regular Meeting agenda items, and such other matters that came before the Board.

The district Facilities Committee is still looking for more members of the community to join the committee. The committee is working on reviewing and developing the district’s facilities master plan. We need as much community input in this process as possible. City of North Royalton Improved Recycling Guidelines
Weekly recycling will begin on September 13, 2010. Mayor Bob Stefanik and the City of North Royalton have entered into an open-ended agreement, effective September 13, 2010, with Norton Landfill and Greenstar Recycling which will significantly improve the City’s recycling program and save the City over $100,000 a year. Residents’ rubbish and recycling pick up will remain on the same day as it is currently, except RECYCLING WILL BE PICKED UP EVERY WEEK! In addition to weekly pick up, the actual recycling program has been significantly improved to encourage 100% participation.
The new guidelines include the ability for residents to mix or co-mingle all recyclables in one bin. Paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, glass and all plastics (numbers one through seven) can be recycled together. A complete list of what may be recycled curbside will be available on the City’s website, www.northroyalton.org, on or before Monday, September 13th. With landfill prices increasing on a yearly basis, it is more important now than ever that every homeowner in North Royalton make a concerted effort to recycle each and every day. It is just the right thing to do for our children, grandchildren and the environment. It continues to be the goal of this Administration to provide the highest level of City services without raising taxes.

This week there is Regular Board Meeting, Transportation Appeals Committee Meeting, SCENE, and various other events.

September Regular School Board Meeting on September 13th at 7pm @ NRHS Community Room, 14713 Ridge Rd., North Royalton, OH 44133. The Board will be approving various meeting agenda items, and such other matters that may come before the Board.

The next SCENE (School Community Exchange Night for Education) will be held on September 16th at 7pm in the North Royalton High School Community Room. SCENE is an informal opportunity for questions and answers about our North Royalton City School District. Hosted by Director of Curriculum & Instruction Bruce Bradley and Superintendent Ed Vittardi, they will be giving an update on the school district’s Ohio Department of Education Local Report Card and 2010-2011 school year information.

North Royalton Stadium Foundation Next Fundraiser will be on September 18th from 12pm-2pm the NRSF Outback Dinner will be held at the Parma Outback. Tickets are only $20 for a complete steak dinner, beverage and Bloomin Onion!!! The entire purchase price of the ticket goes to the North Royalton Stadium Foundation. Tickets are going fast!!!! Monthly Coffee with School Board Member Dan Langshaw
If you are a constituent living in the North Royalton School District, you are invited to attend my next monthly constituent coffee on September 23rd at the French Quarter Café located at 5540 Wallings Road in North Royalton from 6pm to 8pm. I hold these coffees in order to stay in touch with fellow residents and listen to their feedback one on one. There is no appointment necessary. Simply stop by and talk to me. Hope to see you there!

Rush for a Cause
Rush for a Cause is a Ohio non-profit organization (filing for 501(c)(3) status) created to provide community and financial support for seriously injured high school athletes. The campaign enlists other High School Varsity RB's to secure individual and corporate sponsors willing to pledge money for EACH YARD THEY RUSH, starting with the 2010 high school football season. As an alternative, donations are welcome. North Royalton High School RB Logan Pearce is collecting donations this season. Donation jars are at the concession stands at each home football game or you can contact Logan Pearce at 440-582-1806 or check out the organization’s website at www.rushforacause.org.
