Board Update

Good Afternoon:

Welcome back to school! We had an outstanding start to the 2010-2011 school year! This past week the district also received good news that it has received another EXCELLENT on the State Report Card.

LAST WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

Attended the Open Houses for Royal View, Valley Vista, and Albion Elementary Schools on August 23rd. It was great welcoming back all our students, parents, teachers, and support staff at all our elementary schools!

On August 25th, I held my Monthly Constituent Coffee at the French Quarter Café. I just wanted to thank those who stopped by to give me their feedback. I hold these monthly coffees in order to stay in touch with fellow residents and listen to their feedback. There is no appointment necessary. Simply stop by and talk to me. I will keep you posted when my next monthly coffee in September will be.

Attended the Annual Staff Hot Dog Roast and Potluck Dinner on August 27th at North Royalton High School. The food was great, but most importantly I enjoyed spending time with our great teachers and support staff. Special thanks to the teachers and staff who helped put this event together!

Attended the First Friday Night Football Game for the NRHS Bears Vs. the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Bees on August 27th. The Bears unfortunately lost a heart breaker 17-21 to the Bees. But I had a great time watching our student athletes and of course our Band was amazing at half time! Many of you who attended the game noticed the completed East Side Bleachers in our stadium that is part of Phase 1 of the district’s stadium project. I received many positive comments from fans on both sides about how nice it is that our stadium is accessible to those with disabilities or for senior citizens. Another new thing you might have noticed is advertisements in the corners of the end zones of the stadium, this is something new that the Board approved as a way to help cover the cost of improvements to our stadium without having to use taxpayer dollars. Better luck next time for the Bears! GO BEARS!

State Report Card
The North Royalton School District has received EXCELLENT on the State Report Card for the 2009-2010 school year. The district is very proud of the results and the fact that this is the 10th consecutive year for our district to reach such an achievement. North Royalton City School District Featured Once Again For “Home Values Impacted by High Scoring Districts”
August 20, 2010-- North Royalton, OH . North Royalton City School District once again has received national attention by being featured by Move, Inc. on www.move.com, a website source for realtors and potential homebuyers, for Home Values Impacted by High Scoring Districts.

The article states:
“Some families are searching for homes based on proximity to local schools or high scoring school districts. Homes that are near top ranked schools or school districts will often have a higher median list price when compared to the statewide median list price—ranging from 1 to 28 percent higher.”

To aid in home searches with schools in mind, Move, Inc. provided median list prices in ten communities ranked with high education quality scores. North Royalton was #5 for homes with median list prices of under $200,000.

“Once again, our city and schools have received national attention for the superior community we are fortunate to live in and the excellent school district that teaches the students in that community,” said Superintendent Ed Vittardi. “There is no doubt when you have a strong school district that equates to a strong community with increased property values.”

In the spring, North Royalton City School District was featured on www.forbes.com for being one of “America’s 25 Best Schools for Your Housing Buck.” The rating was given by GreatSchools.

Transportation Appeals
I received some more phone calls and e-mails this past week from parents regarding appeals to where their son or daughters bus stop is for the 2010-2011 school year. Also here is a little information on our appeals process that is straight from our district website: “All applications for appeals are due no later than one week prior to the date the applicant will present the appeal. Applicants will be given approximately 10 minutes to present his/her appeal, at which time all pertinent information should be offered to the committee. Questions by the committee members will follow the applicant’s presentation. Committee decisions will be issued subsequent to the appeal date”. THIS WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

This week there is a City EEE Committee Meeting, Special Board Meeting, and various other events.

City Earth Energy Environment Committee Meeting on September 1st at 7pm @ City Hall; 13834 Ridge Rd. North Royalton, OH 44133.

Special School Board Meeting on September 2nd at 6pm @ North Royalton Board of Education Office, 6579 Royalton Rd., North Royalton, OH 44133. The Board will be approving contracts with the NREA, OAPSE, COPSA unions and such other matters that may come before the Board.

North Royalton Stadium Foundation Next Fundraiser will be on September 18th from 12pm-2pm the NRSF Outback Dinner will be held at the Parma Outback. Tickets are only $20 for a complete steak dinner, beverage and Bloomin Onion!!! The entire purchase price of the ticket goes to the North Royalton Stadium Foundation. Tickets are going fast!!!! Rush for a Cause
Rush for a Cause is a Ohio non-profit organization (filing for 501(c)(3) status) created to provide community and financial support for seriously injured high school athletes. The campaign enlists other High School Varsity RB's to secure individual and corporate sponsors willing to pledge money for EACH YARD THEY RUSH, starting with the 2010 high school football season. As an alternative, donations are welcome. North Royalton High School RB Logan Pearce is collecting donatations this season. Donation jars are at the concession stands at each home football game or you can contact Logan Pearce at 440-582-1806 or check out the organization’s website at www.rushforacause.org.
