Board Update

Good Afternoon:

Wow, the summer has gone by pretty fast! It is very exciting that the new school year will be starting very soon for the more than 4,700 amazing students that we have here in the North Royalton School District! The district is focused on continuing our mission to inspire and empower learners for another exciting new year. I look forward to all the upcoming school activities, academic and athletic events that will be starting soon as well as we approach the start of the school!

If you have any friends or neighbors who would like to receive my weekly e-mail updates please let me know and I will be sure to add them to my e-mail list.

LAST WEEK IN YOUR SCHOOL BOARD

Attended the Kick Off Event for Operation NR CARES at the French Quarter Café on August 9th. The event was to help start Operation NR CARES a week long drive August 9-15th that benefits the North Royalton/Kiwanis Emergency Food Bank and families of students in need of basic school supplies in the North Royalton Community. A good number of residents, administrators, and school board members came out to enjoy a nice sampling of traditional New Orleans food. Most importantly people brought several packed boxes full of school supplies and can food items. The event was a huge success! I just like to thank the French Quarter Café for sponsoring this event! The School Board met on August 9th for its’ August Regular School Board Meeting. The board approved various items to get ready for the start of the new school year. The board approved several agreements, including an agreement with PSI Associates for speech language pathology, nursing, health aide and school psychology services to St. Albert the Great. Project SEARCH was approved by the board, this program is an agreement with the Parma City School District for the purpose of providing special education programming and services. In addition the board approved an agreement with the Berea Children’s Home and Family Services for the purpose of providing special education programs and services. The board also approved continuing participation with the Lake Erie Education Media Consortium for the district’s library system. Board also approved changes to the districts’ policy and administrative guidelines relating to Section 504 and Title II of the ADA. The board also approved the employment of Samantha Lumpkin as the new gifted intervention specialist for Albion, Royal View, and Valley Vista elementary schools. Also the board approved a number of substitute bus drivers for the new school year. The board also received an updated on Stadium Project and Alumni Bell Tower Projects, both of which are going well and should be completed before the start of the new school year. The board has also received its’ Building Liaison assignments for the new school year at our board work session last week. I will be the High School Building Liaison for the 2010-2011 school year. As liaison, I am the point of contact for the high school with the school board. The Board approved also various other agenda items, and such other matters that came before the Board.

Operation NR CARES a Success!
I just wanted to thank the community for their recent support of Operation NR CARES. Because of your generosity we were able to help the North Royalton/Kiwanis Emergency Food Bank and numerous families of students who are in need of basic school supplies in the North Royalton Community. It was so great to see an entire community come together and help our friends, neighbors, and students who are in need during these tough economic times! Special thanks to the North Royalton City School District, City of North Royalton Office on Aging and Human Services, French Quarter Café, Howard Hanna Reality, St. Albert the Great Church, Discount Drug Mart, and all the individuals who helped make this all possible. Please don’t forget there are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to help those in need in our community by volunteering your time at some of the local food pantries in our area.
